PET Gabion Bags

The Concertainer, known colloquially as the HESCO MIL, Hesco barrier, or Hesco bastion, is a modern gabion primarily used for flood control and military fortifications. It is made of a collapsible wire mesh container and heavy duty fabric liner, and used as a temporary to semi-permanent levee or blast wall against small-arms fire and/or explosives. It has seen considerable use in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Application

Originally designed for use on beaches and swamps for erosion and flood control, the HESCO barrier quickly became a popular security device in the 1990s. The HESCO barrier will continue to be used for its intended purpose.

How is it composed

To assemble a HESCO MIL unit, you typically need to use a front-end loader to deploy the unit and fill it with sand, soil, or gravel. Barrier placement is generally very similar to sandbag barrier or earth balm placement, but space for equipment used to fill the barrier should generally be allowed.

Advantages

The main advantage of the HESCO barrier, which has contributed significantly to its popularity in the military and flood fighters, is its quick and easy setup. Previously, one worker had to fill about 20 sandbags an hour, a time-consuming task. Workers using HESCO barriers and front-end loaders can do 10 times more work than workers using sandbags.
